Alice Spencer knows 'Alice in Wonderland' by heart, or so she thinks. When the realities of Blitz-weary London and her best friend Alfred receives a terminal prognosis, she decides to escape into Wonderland, where she feels safest and happiest.
Will she remember the story exactly as it was written? Will she be able to linger in the book long enough to keep her friend alive? Or will she learn to live with grief and understand that 'nothing comes or goes without a shadow.'
